Michael Schiestl: Treasure looting, as players might expect from Diablo and the like, will also play an important role in Avencast. In addition, there is a Summoning spell tree that enables the mage to call upon diverse magic reinforcements during combat. Soul Magic is predominantly comprised of ranged attacks such as shots, waves, walls and novas. Blood Magic favors short-range and magically enhanced combat moves with the staff. Both are supported by a third branch that features Summoning Magic. Jonric: What manner of magic system are you implementing in the game? What different types or schools are there? Matthias Hilke: As briefly mentioned earlier, the magic system offers a skill tree with two main branches, Blood Magic and Soul Magic. He can summon two legionnaires at a time, possesses meteor and fireball spells, and can cast impenetrable magical armor that can only be undone by non-combat means i.e. You'll actually have to outwit them, find their weak spots and strike when the moment is right. The bosses, of course, are a lot tougher than your regular enemies, and some of them can't be beaten by simply grinding them down with superior strength. Each of the optional quests has been individually designed, and most of them reveal exciting details in the charming world of Avencast. These are much more than just simple "go, kill and get" tasks. All monsters have different strategies, behave differently and will employ plenty of skills to make your life a lot harder. Some others include the Demon Maggot, a spawning monster that lays eggs from which three scarabs apiece are hatched, and the Demon Herder, which heals other monsters, shoots fireballs, freezes you and flees when harassed. ![]() From a 13 foot-high undead arch-mage to a dual-axe wielding demon named Wolgath who tries to suck you in with his "belly mouth", there are a lot of unusual creatures that you'll encounter in the game. Jonric: Since we were discussing combat, what variety of adversaries have you created to populate Avencast? What are some interesting or unusual examples?
